Father’s Day is a special reminder that fatherhood is a vocation, a blessing, by which men are called to bless those whom they have been specially entrusted with. This, is no small task, and can only be done by the grace of God and in unity with Christ.
Accordingly, the Church provides us with a special blessing this day for fathers, entrusting them to the care of our Heavenly Father, and asking Him to give them the grace to live out their vocation authentically and fully. You will find the text of the blessing below.
Father’s Day Blessing of Fathers
All begin with Sign of the Cross
All may stretch out their hands over the father(s) in a gesture of blessing.
God our Father,
In your wisdom and love you made all things.
Bless our father.
Let the example of his faith and love shine forth.
Grant that we, his family,
May honor him always
With a spirit of profound respect.
Through Christ our Lord.
R/. Amen.
Hymn: Faith of Our Fathers
1. Faith of our Fathers, faith and prayer,
Shall win all nations unto thee;
And through the truth that comes from God,
Mankind shall then indeed be free.
Refrain:
Faith of our fathers, holy faith!
We will be true to thee till death.
2. Faith of our Fathers, we will love,
Both friend and foe in all our strife:
And preach thee too, as love knows how,
By kindly deeds and virtuous life. (Back to refrain)
